Privacy Policy for FolderTV

Last Updated: July 20, 2026

80bee (“we”, “us”, or “our”) built FolderTV (“the App”) as a local-first, serverless media playout application for Android. This Privacy Policy informs users regarding our policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information for anyone using FolderTV.

1. Information Collection and Use

FolderTV is designed from the ground up to operate entirely on-device. We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data, usage telemetry, analytics, or media content to external servers or third parties.

Local Media & Storage Access

  • Scoped Storage (Storage Access Framework): FolderTV uses Android’s native Storage Access Framework (SAF) to let users index local video folders on internal storage or MicroSD cards. Read permissions granted to selected directory trees remain local to your device and are used strictly to discover and play your media files.
  • Server Message Block (SMB) Network Shares: If you configure remote SMB network shares, the App connects directly across your Local Area Network (LAN) to your network storage. No media stream or network traffic ever leaves your local network.

Security of Credentials

  • SMB Credentials: Usernames, passwords, and domain credentials entered for SMB authentication are encrypted locally on your Android device using Android KeyStore-backed EncryptedSharedPreferences. Credentials are never transmitted anywhere except directly to your specified SMB server over your local network.

Local Database

  • Information regarding your channels, indexed media file paths, playout progress, and UI preferences are stored locally in an isolated SQLite database (Room) and local SharedPreferences on your device.

2. Third-Party Services and Analytics

FolderTV contains no third-party tracking SDKs, no advertisement frameworks, no social media plugins, and no cloud analytics or crash reporting services.

3. Children’s Privacy

FolderTV does not address or collect information from anyone under the age of 13. Since no personal data is collected or transmitted by the App, no data from children is stored or processed.

4. Permissions Used by the App

FolderTV requests only essential Android system permissions required for local media playout:

  • INTERNET: Required solely to stream SMB media files across your Local Area Network (LAN).
  • ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE & ACCESS_WIFI_STATE: Used to check local Wi-Fi connectivity before attempting SMB background indexing tasks to conserve battery.
